À La Mode

With temperatures soaring up to the 90’s and beyond, plus a humidity level to match, there’s no denying that this summer is going to be a hot and sticky one.  Legs sticking to plastic chairs, hair frizzy enough to be qualified as an afro, I can’t say I’m taking this sudden change of weather too gracefully.  If it weren’t for all of the beautiful fruits and vegetables that are born thanks to this season, I would be tempted to pack up and move up to Canada for a few months until this sweltering summer passes.  Luckily, there’s still plenty of redeeming qualities to this time of year, and there’s one thing alone that could possibly even convince me to love the sun, if anything ever could:  Ice cream.  Although I do make and eat it all year round, as soon as the switch is made from long sleeves to short, my appetite for those frozen concoctions increases exponentially with each passing day.  Despite easily putting away a number of pints each week, it never grows old, and thus the recipes and ideas related to ice cream grow correspondingly.

Rather than hogging all of these treats like I tend to do in real life, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to release another ebook, and in perfect time to celebrate National Ice Cream Month with, too!

Containing a cool baker’s dozen, these 13 recipes are sure to ease the pain of summer, or simply enhance the season for those who crave this sort of climate:

Birthday Cake Ice Cream
Buttered Popcorn Ice Cream
Chai Latte Ice Cream
Cherry Cola Ice Cream
French Vanilla Ice Cream
German Chocolate Ice Cream
Jam Ice Cream
Maple-Pecan Ice Cream
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Ice Cream
Peanut Butter Bomb Shell Ice Cream
Peppermint Crush Ice Cream
Rose Petal Ice Cream
White Peach-Rosemary Ice Cream

…Plus many other suggestions for spin-offs and adaptations. As always, each recipe is accompanied by a luscious color photo of the finished product, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. While an ice cream maker is recommended for the best results, there are plenty of other methods to create sweet frozen treats; Just check out this detailed explanation of the procedure that David Lebovitz has so generously shared on his blog.

Quality vegan ice creams can be exorbitantly expensive, so at the cost of $5, this ebook will pay for itself with just one batch!

  1. The Buttered Popcorn and Maple Pecan ones are tops on my list to try!

  2. Hi Hannah!

I want to know if I need an Ice-cream machine in order to make them, and also if soy cream is needed.
Because here in Argentina, we don’t have that :(

    Thanks so much!

  3. Wow! This book looks amazing. Buttered popcorn ice-cream, I have to try that one! Peanut Butter Bombshell…you must have been reading my mind.

  4. Oh yes the peanut butter bombshell ice cream is right up my alley! I can’t wait to try them all!

  5. Those icecream flavours sound delicious! such unique flavours for icecream arent they? jam or popcorn flavours sound amazing!

  10. Having had the privilege of tasting a few of these recipes, I can wholeheartedly say that whether or not you are a vegan, these are mighty fine desserts!

  11. Man you make me wish I had an ice cream maker so I could try all of these!! Good luck with the sales!!

  12. Are you kidding me with those combinations?! Those sound like flavors one could only dream about!!!

  13. Ooo what an awesome sounding collection of ice creams! Especially the birthday cake one mmm. In many places, Canada actually gets quite hot in the summer. It’s around 80 here (Vancouver) and can get hotter some days. In other places like Toronto it can get disgustingly hot.

    • sounds awesome! It does get wicked hot here in Canada too! All the more need for ice cream!

  14. Wow, this looks so good! The flavors you have in it all sound so interesting and not your usual boring flavors! I love dairy free ice cream!

  15. Is it weird that I’m a sucker for cake mix ice cream? I absolutely love it – not the one with cake pieces in it, the one that tastes like cake batter. Maybe it’s from all that spatula licking I did as a child? :)

  16. I can’t get enough ice cream this summer!

  17. Sounds like it’s worth it for the birthday cake ice cream alone!

Oh, and I don’t think you’ll find much relief in Canada: average summer temperature here in Toronto is high 80s, over 90 with the humidity. ;)

  18. I’m totally getting myself a copy! Every single flavor sounds incredible!

  19. In many parts of Canada we get lots of heat and humidity too. And almost everywhere up here, we grow fruits and veggies too… Just sayin’ :)

    Your ice cream sounds delicious!

  20. Ha! Last summer I DID pack up and move to Canada for the summer. While New England was having a heat wave, it was a cool, misty 50 degrees in Newfoundland. I’m with you on the weather. Now that I’ve picked and canned my strawberries, it can’t be September soon enough.

Your ice cream flavors sound great, and I love the subtitle. Do you use soy milk as your base, or something else?

  21. [...] that Hannah of My Sweet Vegan and Bittersweet, has a new mini eCookbook out, and wow! It is called À La Mode, and it is a collection of the most creative and cravable (word?) frozen desserts I have ever laid [...]

  22. hooray for ice cream! if i could get my butt in gear and get an ice cream maker (need to do more research for bargains), then i would totally get this and make one pint each day. happy ice cream month!

  23. I love making ice cream. This sounds great.

  24. Hannah, I just ordered the ebook! I am so in ice cream making mode. I really like that you have decided to use this way of publishing – that way I can get your recipes very fast even though I am in Germany.

  25. Oh…my…gosh, this sounds amazing! I have never made homemade ice cream, but I bet I would really like it. Gotta get myself an ice cream maker!

  26. Do all of the recipes require sugar?

  27. Just bought the ebook! Can’t wait to try some of the recipes!

  28. Yum, I am so getting this in the near future!

  29. Just purchased this! I cannot wait to make the Birthday Cake Ice Cream :) I wasn’t going to buy this thinking it would all be soy-based but I was happy to read the intro and the substitutions like coconut milk, brilliant!

  30. YES! Rose petal ice cream! I can’t wait to get this and try that recipe out, I’ve been dying to try rose ice cream for ages since we talked about it. Thank you!

  31. [...] n À La Mode « BitterSweet [...]
